The opportunity exists to close the digital divide between poor and affluent students, but only if that goal is diligently pursued.
The proliferation of ever smaller and more sophisticated digital equipment means that even someone who was up to date three years ago is now lagging if he or she hasn’t upgraded. Teachers need continual retraining to keep up with the needs of their students.
Likewise, schools and boards of education must make sure the technology afforded to all students keeps pace with what is available to the wealthier of their classmates.
